I know I already tweeted about it, but I just thought it would make a good short blog for today. So as most of you guys know, there was a HUGE earthquake yesterday. It wasn’t so much like deadly, but it was definitely a big one. I was just in my room playing a game on Facebook (if you know me well enough, you would know which one hahaha!) All of a sudden it happened. Everything was just violently shaking all around me like there was no tomorrow. Being on the second floor, it’s a lot more scary just thinking about it collapsing and what not. Plus, you actually feel it more up there. Anywho, I was scared SHITLESS, especially since I heard glass break and the violent rumble which I found somewhat similar to thunder. In my mind I was just praying and praying, yet I didn’t react well. You guys should all know, or sorry.. *We should all know* that we’re supposed to drop, cover, and hold during the event of an earthquake. However, MY immediate mentality at the time was just to GET THE FUCK OUT OF THERE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. So basically, I yelled for my sister and my mom to get out, jolted downstairs, and boned out to the door. My mom, of all people, was surprisingly calm about it. Looking back at what happened, that was a totally bad reaction on my part. Had it been a real deadly earthquake, that would have been a complete risk to my life. I guess it’s just the fact that I haven’t felt such a big one in so long. Oh, and you have to consider too that we haven’t had one that huge in 15 years. (according to the news) We were talking about this in Psychology last week.. what Freud called the instinct for life. Me jolting out the door yelling for dear life is just an effect of my strong will to live.
I guess we don’t think about it too often, but we’re actually due for a big time earthquake. Yesterday’s is nothing compared to what’s supposed to happen one of these days. I vaguely remember learning about plate tectonics in highschool and how right now the San Andreas fault is constantly active, but I do remember for a fact we’re due for a big shaker. It’s some really unfortunate news, but it’s simply the inevitable violence of nature..
So with that said, lets go make those handy dandy earthquake kits! :D
