Look at Facebook, Tumblr, Vimeo, Twitter, and Grooveshark. I really think they’re all similar in the way that they went for simple, yet elegant aesthetics. Twitter, Tumblr, Vimeo, and Grooveshark have log in pages where the letters are super big, so that pretty much half the page takes up just the log in portion. In general, the fonts are a tad bit bigger on all of those sites. I also noticed on Facebook, they decided to make our thumbnails into rounded squares. It’s the same exact thing for the Tumblr dashboard, a small little detail, but makes it look nicer IMO. You notice too that all these sites have such a simple color scheme. Maybe simple, yet elegant is a good thing because it’s easy for users to navigate their sites. They can easily locate things because of a simple layout. If you look at Myspace, it’s still a little bit too cluttered. That goes for sites like YouTube and Last.fm as well.. So basically, my theory is that we’ll be seeing fancy looking sites like these emerge or become more popular pretty soon. So why did Facebook change it up a bit? Honestly, I think the whole reason why Facebook revamped the homepage was merely so that they could make it super simple for both new comers and current existing users to navigate and use. That’s all there is to it really.
But anyway, who cares? (my domain name is awesome amirite?) I feel like I’ve just wasted a minute or two of my life on this stupid blog LOL.
